Sign up to newsletters & rewards programs

Not only might you enjoy a special offer or incentive for signing up, you’ll also be able to stay in the know with regards to pre-sales and special offers and whilst potentially enjoying more rewards each time you spend.

If you don’t want your email inbox getting full of offer emails, set up a dedicated email account or assign different folders to your inbox and forward emails straight on, so you can review when you’re ready.

Clear your browsing history and cookies

Retailer websites track your browsing patterns and purchases through “cookies” and sometimes they use this information to raise prices on items you appear keen on.

Clear your browser history then you’ll be treated like a new customer and may enjoy less biased prices.

Fill your cart then walk away

Make sure you’re logged into a site, fill your shopping cart with your chosen items, then leave the site without paying and completing the purchase.

The retailer may then send you an incentives to return and finish your purchase over the next few days. This takes patience but it can be worth the wait.

Be delivery savvy

If you shop regularly with the same retailer, it can often be worth signing up for an annual delivery pass, which can save you money in the long run.

Morrisons says its Delivery Pass can save shoppers £167 per year* and ASOS Premier Delivery costs £9.95 per year, which is less than two next day delivery orders, priced at £5.95 each.

If you pay for express delivery and your item arrives but it’s late, you can claim back for the cost of your delivery, but only for the difference between the cost of the express and standard delivery. (By law, standard deliveries have to arrive after 30 days late for them to be classed as late).

Many retailers now offer free returns but if your retailer doesn’t, it’s worth noting that Paypal will reimburse you for the cost of sending the item back. If you sign up, the scheme covers up to 12 returns on eligible Paypal purchases**, reimbursing up to £5 per request.

*Based on one shop per week at an average delivery cost of £3.89. Valid on deliveries over £40.

**Exclusions and t&cs apply.
